This research focuses on the development and structural understanding of a novel material, CrFeCoNiZn high-entropy metal nitride, a single-phase nitride composed of five metallic elements with an anti-perovskite crystal structure.
The material exhibits excellent thermal stability due to the high configurational entropy arising from its multi-component composition. It also possesses intriguing properties, including magnetic responsiveness and piezoelectricity. In addition, the complex metallic composition generates abundant surface defects, leading to highly reactive surfaces that are advantageous for catalytic applications. Our study demonstrates that this novel material can serve as an efficient sonocatalyst for degrading antibiotic molecules using only a conventional ultrasonic bath. This work introduces a promising strategy for removing persistent organic pollutants from contaminated water while highlighting the broader potential of high-entropy metal nitrides for future applications in environmental remediation, energy technologies, and advanced functional materials.
